8-Band QRP Transceiver Builder Kit

Build one of the most interesting open-source QRP transceivers available!

The DL2MAN uSDX Sandwich, designed by Manuel, DL2MAN, is a compact, modular HF transceiver built around the uSDX platform. Its unique stacked-board design combines the I/O Board, Mainboard, and 8-Band RF Board into a compact radio that's ideal for builders, experimenters, and portable QRP operators.

CQ Homestead Supply takes the hassle out of sourcing the project by offering the Sandwich as a complete parts kit or a CQHS fully assembled builder radio.

Choose Your Build Level

Complete Parts Kit

For builders who want the complete experience.

Includes the PCB set and the components needed to assemble the Sandwich, including:

  • I/O, Mainboard, and 8-Band RF Board components

  • Semiconductors and ICs

  • Relays and RF components

  • Toroids and magnet wire

  • Display, controls, connectors, and headers

  • Assembly hardware and miscellaneous components

Components are organized and packaged to make the build process easier.

Skill Level: Advanced

SMD and through-hole soldering, toroid winding, programming, RF testing, and final alignment are required.

CQHS Fully Assembled Kit

Want to skip the component-level assembly?

CQ Homestead Supply assembles the boards, installs the components, winds and installs the toroids, and completes the basic electrical assembly.

The end user completes the final RF alignment and commissioning procedure.

Final alignment includes band setup, RF output verification, SWR checks, and other procedures specified in the DL2MAN documentation.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

This option is intended for operators comfortable with basic RF test equipment and alignment procedures.

8-Band RF Design

The Sandwich uses DL2MAN's 8-Band RF Board, featuring individually tuned RF networks and an efficient Class-E power amplifier.

The modular design allows the radio to be configured for eight supported amateur bands, making it an excellent platform for QRP operation and experimentation.

Builder Equipment

For final setup and alignment, we recommend having access to:

  • Digital multimeter

  • 50-ohm dummy load

  • RF wattmeter/SWR meter

  • NanoVNA or similar RF test equipment

Initial transmitter testing and alignment should always be performed into a proper 50-ohm dummy load.

Open-Source Project

The uSDX Sandwich is an open-source amateur radio project.

Hardware Design: Manuel — DL2MAN
uSDX Software: Guido — PE1NNZ

CQ Homestead Supply did not design the Sandwich. Our goal is to make this excellent open-source project easier to build by providing a complete, properly sourced kit and an assembled option.

The DL2MAN Sandwich hardware is released under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

Important

This is builder equipment, not a factory-aligned commercial transceiver.

The Complete Parts Kit requires full assembly and alignment.

The CQHS Fully Assembled Kit requires final alignment and RF verification by the end user before normal operation.

Build it. Align it. Put it on the air.
